This multi-year project began with a need to have more settling space for a washwater stream from the power plant. Certain washout waters were required to be lime treated to precipitate metal ions prior to final disposition of the water. The 2 acre pond installed about 30 years ago was becoming full and was deteriorating. The Owner first considered the cleaning out of the pond and relining it for future use. With Resource assistance in alternatives analysis, it was determined that it would be more cost effective to close the existing pond in place, and to develop a new pond adjacent to it.
Resource then designed a new membrane lined lagoon, including new piping and pump locations. The new design included inlet and outlet structures, and a pH mix tank. Resource also provided construction QA/QC oversight. Resource also provided construction QA/QC oversight on the filling, membrane capping, and closure of the existing pond.
