School Expansion - Stonewall Jackson and Liberty Middle Schools

Hanover County, Virginia

Project Overview

Resource provided engineering and surveying services at two middle schools, Stonewall Jackson and Liberty Middle Schools, located in Hanover County, Virginia.   Stonewall Jackson Middle School lies on a 28-acre site with topography ranging from very flat to steeply sloping.  It is located in the Coastal Plain physiographic province of Hanover County.  The Liberty Middle School lies on a 44-acre site in the Piedmont physiographic province of Hanover County.  Resource designed the grading, drainage, storm sewer, utilities, and erosion and sediment controls for both schools as well as topographic asbuilt surveys.

Hydrological calculations were performed to determine the peak runoff from the sites in both their existing and developed conditions.  Storm sewer sizing calculations were performed and additional storm water piping was designed to serve the expansion of the sites.  Silt fencing, curb and drop inlet protection, pipe outlet protection, and permanent seeding were located to prevent off-site migration of sediment.
